Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
My HW is provided by Forty Two Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16993007), with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ ("we", "us", "our").
This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use the My HW app (iOS and web), the web app at web.myhw.app, and our website at myhw.app.

2. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and a password (or, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the information shared by those services — typically your name and email address).
Profile and group information
Depending on your role (parent, student, teacher, or tutor), you may provide additional information such as your child's name, the groups you create or join, and homework, assignments, activities, and progress data entered into the app.
Subscription and payment information
If you subscribe to a paid plan through the App Store, payment is processed by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment card details. We receive limited information about your subscription status (e.g. which plan you're on) via our subscription platform, RevenueCat. If you purchase a plan directly from us (for example, an institutional or enterprise plan), we collect the billing and contact details needed to invoice you.
Usage data
We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the app is used. This may include your email address, name, user ID, subscription tier, and information about how you interact with the app. Analytics are configured so that children's names and email addresses are excluded (see section 7).
Push notifications
If you enable push notifications, we collect a device token (a unique identifier provided by Apple) to send you notifications about homework, deadlines, and reminders.
Newsletter and updates
If you sign up for our newsletter on myhw.app, we collect your email address, which is processed by Loops, our email platform. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
Support requests
If you contact us for support, we collect the information you provide (such as your name, email address, and the content of your message) to respond to your query. Support requests are managed through Zoho Desk.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide the core functionality of My HW (homework tracking, planning, group management, calendar feeds)
- Process subscriptions and provide access to paid features
- Send you notifications about homework and deadlines (if enabled)
- Send you our newsletter or product updates, where you have signed up
- Understand how the app is used so we can improve it
- Respond to support requests
- Communicate with you about your account or important changes to the service
- Comply with our legal obligations
4. Legal basis for processing (UK/EU users)
We rely on the following legal bases under UK and EU data protection law:
- Contract: processing necessary to provide the My HW service you've signed up for
- Consent: for push notifications, our newsletter, and certain analytics, where required
- Legitimate interests: to improve our service, ensure security, and communicate important updates
- Legal obligation: where we need to retain or disclose information to comply with the law

We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising.
6. International data transfers
Our application infrastructure is hosted with Replit, with servers located in North America. Some of our other service providers, including PostHog, RevenueCat, Loops, Vercel, and Zoho, may also process data on servers located outside the UK and European Economic Area (EEA), primarily in the United States. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms, to protect your data in line with UK GDPR and EU GDPR requirements.
7. Children's privacy
My HW is designed to be used by students of all ages, including children under 13, as part of a family, school, or tutoring group. We take children's privacy seriously and have designed the service around the following principles:
- Adults create and manage accounts. Accounts and groups involving children are always created and managed by a parent, guardian, teacher, or tutor. Children never register for the service themselves.
- Parental consent. By creating an account or profile on behalf of a child, the parent or guardian consents to this privacy policy on the child's behalf. For users in the United States, we rely on this parental consent in line with COPPA.
- High-privacy defaults. Privacy settings for children default to the most protective option and cannot be changed by the child. We design the service with the UK Information Commissioner's Age Appropriate Design Code in mind.
- No advertising or profiling. We do not use children's data for advertising, marketing, or profiling, and we do not sell it. Our analytics are configured to exclude children's names and email addresses.
If we become aware that a child under 13 has created an account without parental involvement, we will take steps to remove the account or arrange for parental consent. Parents and guardians can review, update, or delete their child's information at any time via account settings, or by contacting us at privacy@myhw.app.
8. Data retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, this happens immediately and permanently — your account, profile, login information, groups you created or administered, child profiles, and personal tags are all permanently deleted.
If you are a member of a group created by someone else, your participation in that group is anonymised rather than deleted, so that other members' shared records are not disrupted. We may retain certain information for longer where required by law (e.g. financial records related to subscriptions).
9. Your rights
If you are located in the UK or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@myhw.app, or use the account deletion feature in Settings → Danger Zone.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or your local data protection authority if you are in the EEA.
10. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
11. Cookies (web app and website)
The My HW web app and our website at myhw.app may use essential cookies necessary for them to function (e.g. to keep you logged in). We do not currently use cookies for advertising purposes.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.
